William "Bill" Nicholls Obituary

WILLIAM (BILL) CHARLES NICHOLLS

William (Bill) Charles Nicholls, born on January 16, 1929, in Calgary, AB, passed away on March 6, 2024 in Claresholm, AB. Bill's life story is one of strength, laughter, and a deep dedication to his loved ones. Raised by his mother, Minnie (nee Farrington) after his father's early death, Bill grew up in a crowded but loving home with five siblings. His early life taught him the value of family, humor, and community—a theme that remained central throughout his life.

Bill started his career with the City of Calgary, eventually finding his niche within the electrical industry. Driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, he founded Stampede Electric in Calgary in 1963. His professional journey took him to Saskatoon, Winnipeg and finally Edmonton, where he expanded his business and started Frontier Electric. He concluded his career as an estimator for Gescan. Bill was a committed member of the Home Builders Association and the Gyro Club in both Calgary and Edmonton, and actively volunteered, contributing significantly to his profession and community.

More than his professional achievements, Bill was known for his excellent sense of humor, his enjoyment of 'good' scotch, and his knack for brightening any room he entered.

Bill's heart was as vast as his family, formed over three twenty-year marriages. His last marriage to Anne, his love for twenty-two years until her passing in 2017, brought immense happiness and a blended family that included children Martin (Darlene), Greig (Brenda), Leslie, Lynnette (Ian), and step-daughters Sherri (Clarence), Sandy, and Tanya. As a grandpa to thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Bill took great pride and joy in his large family.

Bill enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, like a game of crib, listening to Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, or the challenge of improving his golf and euchre skills. Bill loved to travel, prioritizing visits to the best casinos over museums and beaches, living life on his terms.

Leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and resilience, Bill impacted many through his everyday actions and the genuine warmth he extended to all. His memory will remain a beacon for those who knew him, guiding us through our own lives with the lessons he taught us about love, laughter, and the importance of family. Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff at Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre in Claresholm for their devoted care to Dad in his last years. Rest in peace, Dad. You'll always be remembered and deeply missed by those of us lucky enough to have known and loved you. No service by request.
